Hi,

I'm using Word 2007, SP2. Here is a screen cast of my problem: < It's hard to explain in writing, so I figured a video would work better. As you can see, whenever I change the print-quality settings to "Best" the layout of the document changes.

This started happening after I changed the font in my invoices from Garamond (a TrueType font) to Adobe Garamond Pro (an OpenType font) because Garamond Pro looks much better on my screen than the TrueType version. So, it doesn't happen when the font is set in Garamond, only Garamond Pro. It does not happen in OpenOffice.org Writer, either. I'd rather print it in Word, though, because it maintains the look of my document better than Writer.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Richard Maxwell

Does it happen when you sue a TrueType font because that looks like a printer driver problem. The printer is interpretting the font incorrectly. Check to see if you have the latest driver, then delete and reinstall the printer, If it is still the same, try that font on a different PC/printer combination. I'll test it if you like.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. No. It only happens with OpenType fonts.

I think you're right about the printer drivers. I just tested it on another computer running Word 2007 with a Lexmark Z515 printer (sold in 2004) and it doesn't exhibit the problem. But, unfortunately, it appears that the most recent drivers for my printer (Lexmark Z53) were released in 2001.

It seems the printer driver is the culprit then. It must be giving misinformation about page layout to Word. Have you established if this just a display error or does it actually print as seen; that is it prints one layout when in draft quality and a different layout in high quality or is it only the screen view that is wrong?

I suppose the only workaround at the moment is to use Garamond TT font or perhaps try a different font similar in style to Garamond that pleases the eye.

that OpenOffice's Writer doesn't mind when I change the quality. "

Writer has a very different object model and internal structure. VERY different.

Word is 100% driven by the printer driver. Writer is not.
