Page Break in General Journal 1

For some reason our auditor requires that we print each Source Journal separately and three hole punch it into a notebook, along with the spreadsheet that originated it.

Our options now are print and update each batch one at a time. I am working ln a GL Exchange process that will import several spreadsheets at once. Does anyone know a way to get a page break based on change in GL Source.

We do about a hundred of these things a month and we are trying very hard to get this as automated as possible.

This sounds like it should be so easy. If I could get to the actual program it would be one line of code to get these page breaks.

I can find no place to configure a report. I have gone over all the help files, MAS90 Sage Talk, and gone to tek-tips website.

I did find when using MAS90 Help a place where there is a box called "Lookup Customization Wizard" called Select or Modify the column(s) for lookup - Report Settings List.

This list looks promising as it includes Page Break, Sort Report By, Collated, three hole punch, and other interesting choices. So I selected Page Break and my next set of choices are Heading, Width, and Justification. The same options go for all the fields. These choices make no sense for the items in the list. How do you create a heading for a page break??

So now I am wondering if there is some sort of secret undocumented way of doing this? Does anyone know? If only we could print to a Word Doc instead of a pdf file then the accountant could go in and make his own page break. Now he has to cut and paste each journal to a new file and print it. Our goal is to save time, and with about one hudred journals a month this isn't efficient.

Creating a page break just seems so easy and I just can't find where to accomplish this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

carolamrt,

If you are on a MAS version 4.0 or higher, you have access to the update report with Crystal. Crystal has options to page break based on groupings in the report.

Thanks. I don't see this particular report listed as an option in Crystal Reports. This is particularly frustrating because it should be easy.

The program already provides a total. All I need is a page break after the total. So simple and I have spent all day trying to figure it out.

The biggest disadvantage of using Providex programming instead of Microsoft programming. If this were a Microsoft product I would have dozens of people offering solutions.

This should just be a simple mouse click on a list of options - Page Break after Total Y/N.

I would think it should just be an option in the Crystal Report.

Gah! Why do you have to print out so much paper? Can't you save them all to your hard drive then burn the auditor a CD?

The biggest disadvantage of using Providex programming instead of Microsoft programming. If this were a Microsoft product I would have dozens of people offering solutions." - This has NOTHING to do with your problem. The page break is a function of the report engine, in this case Crystal.

" I am working ln a GL Exchange process that will import several spreadsheets at once. Does anyone know a way to get a page break based on change in GL Source."

What the heck are you talking about? The data and the program have NOTHING to do with getting a page break in the report.

"This sounds like it should be so easy. If I could get to the actual program it would be one line of code to get these page breaks" - You have no idea what you are talking about. There is NO line of code to get to. The report engine is Crystal. THERE IS NO CODE! If you took the time to learn Crystal reports or better yet called your reseller you could have done this long ago.

We pay the auditors (a big firm) big money to tell us to do this stuff. And it goes in a three ring notebook and sits on a shelf. With little dividers so that each source journal is in its own divider.

My preference would be to have this all on disk. Yes.

I did finally figure out a way to get it into Word. Exporting to email. Then there is an option to go to a word doc. This is from the Journal Reprint option.

So I think that will work. It will have to do because I have to move onto other tasks.

Thanks.

Big Louie thanks.

I don't see this as a crystal reports report.

I use Crystal Reports. I used to work for Microsoft.

I went to the list of reports that can be modified and the General Journal isn't on that list.

Maybe I'm not clear on what exact report I need.

First you do a journal entry. Then you print a report. Then you update. It is THAT REPORT I want to create a page break for. If it isn't written in Providex and encripted, and instead it is indeed a Crystal Report, then yes if I could find it I could modify it.

That is the help I am asking for. WHERE IS IT???

I don't believe we should have to pay our Reseller a thousand dollars to modify a program only to have them modify it again every time we upgrade. This is something I should have been able to do easily.

What you want to modify *is* a Crystal Report. If you are on version 4.x then all the reports in G/L are Crystal Reports. Just look in the mas90\reports folder. They all start with "GL".

You should really question why someone has to spend all sorts of time filing reports. That just seems inconceivable in this day and age with electronic files being available. Plus if it's electronic, you can run a search to find things instead of paging through a binder.

Thank you Dawn. (I hope I got the name right, if not my apologies). I am home now. I will try to find it tomorrow. Hopefully this is the tip I was hoping for.

I don't spend all my time in MAS90. In fact I spend only a tiny tiny amount of time in MAS90. And I am so used to finding answers via Google. It is frustrating to not be able to use Google to get answers in MAS90.

Regarding the paperwork - in this day and age this is a waste of trees. I agree.

Carolamart we have the Paperless Office enhancement and print all journals to PDF and then at year end burn them to a CD. With just a few clicks of the mouse I can pull up any journal from any year.

Big Louie - I believe we were at one time looking at the paperless office. I will see what Google pulls up on it.

To me this seems like a good approach. So you must like it?

Paperless Office will be built into version 4.30 of MAS 90. You could beta test it to get the version early, in March, whereas everyone else will get the release in June.

However, the G/L natively exports to PDF and you can create your own organizational structure now.
