Package Share Not Being Created

I recently set up a new Windows 2000 (SP3) server to act as a Distribution Point for our SMS site (SMS 2.0, SP4). I have added the server to the Site Systems and checked the box to make it a distribution point. However, the SMS_PKGx$ share never gets created. The SMSService account is of course a domain admin, and Domain Admins is a member of the Administrators group on the box. The server in question is in the same domain as the site server. Any clues why the package share is not being created (none of the SMS accounts are locked out)?

I can think of a couple of things (I'm assuming the server has been discovered already):
1. lack of space on the server (not likely I would image)
2. A firewall issue? If the server is on a remote net, this could possibly do it. Try making the system a CAP and see if it works.
3. Check the Distmgr.Log file. You might have to enable the Distribution Manager Component Logging feature in the SMS Service Manager. Use SMS Trace to view the file verbotem and set up the server to be a distribution point again and see what the log dumps out.
4. Check the event viewer on the Windows 2000 machine.5
5. Try using the MakeDist.exe tool on the Resource kit.
6.You can also check the following logs, although they have more to do with the actual process of moving packages for distribution (I believe). despool.log, replmgr.log, inboxmgr.log NOTE: you will have to enable logging on the components.
7. Check and make sure the components are running (Distribution Manager, Despooler,Replication Manager,Inbox Manager)

Good luck!

As i know this SMSpkgx$ will not created till u creat package and distribute it

With my best wishes

Thanks danoh and sambusa. I assumed that the share would be created when a server was designated as a distribution point, but sambusa was right, it doesn't get created until you actually distribute a package that has source files. Sorry, my ignorance!
