I recently got a really annoying pop-up on my Win10 laptop running the most recent update. It is called Package-Manager.net. My wife says she downloaded it to track her purchases made on Amazon.

I have looked high and low on the 'Net and have been unable to even find a single reference to Package-Manager. Yet, when I type in Package-Manager.net it goes directly to a Fed-Ex, USPS, UPS page and says the "Must have app for tracking packages." When I scroll to the bottom of the page there is an Uninstall button. That just takes you to a page that shows you how to get rid of extensions. It is just NOT there in Extensions, nor is it in my Programs and Features. I am not finding anything that looks out of place.

The pop-up appears as a large 3"x 3" gray block that pops up in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop even when Google Chrome has not launched, but appears most often when I am using the "Net. You literally can't go forward until you click the arrow to send the box to the margin of the page. One time I actually clicked on it, and it took me to a web page selling Male Supplements products. So it may track packages, but the big gray box is just click bait!

Thanks,

Dan

No, it gives that impression, but actually it goes to a page operated by Cyprus-based Springtech limited. I'd google them, if I were you … and then perhaps run an antimalware application ...

Yes, saw that too, and it was a bit unnerving. I ran CC Cleaner and Malwarebytes. Found some PUPs but none of them stopped the popups. My normal antivirus is Avast Free.

When the software was first downloaded, I discovered it because it placed a new banner beneath the Google Chrome header on the browser. I hate those and immediately went to More Tools > Extensions and deleted it. Yet the pop-ups still remain.

I am now getting reading to look at Regedit to see if i can find it in the Registry.

It only goes to Package-Manager.net when you type in the URL. If you click on the pop-up, it takes you to various websites.

The click bait is a message about Meagan leaving England or the Sad news about__________ fill-in the blank.

I may actually check one more place, Facebook because the pop-up is medium gray just like the pop-up for Facebook that tells you what you have been missing for the last 30 seconds.
