Is it possible to convert a physical server into an image or VHD that I can load into vmware later.

I have a cust (no remote access) who is having issues with our application and want to goto site and p2v the server, bring the image back to the office and load into our esx 3.5 lab.

Yes you can. In VMware Converter when it gives you the option you can choose to make it a standalone virtual machine. Once you have it at your office upload it to ur esx server and then run the following command using remote cli or putty to make it readable in your esx enviroment...

vmkfstools -i /”path”/”filename”.vmdk new-”filename”.vmdk

Pretty much this converts it from a worstation image into a esx image.

Then just create a new virtual machine with that vmdk file.
