Hi All,

GICI port between MD and DNA server is UP but when OWS sends text message for extension, message waiting light does not come on for the phone. Checking with SUSIP, the extension does not show it has any message. has anybody encountered the same or have any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked what "Information System ID" you have in the setting of GICI/CSTA port configuration?

Have you set up the inforamtion port in MD (ICFUP) with same ID??

Have you set up ISFUI and tied it against ICFUP??

Yes, the values are the same. In this case it is set as GICI-02 using port 5005.

Here were the commands used:

IONCI:IODEV=NETWORKOUT,USER=GICI-2,IP=172.16.5.8,RPORT=5005;

ICFUI:IFCIND=3,IODEV=NETWORKOUT,USER=GICI-02,DFMT=4,UPDFCN=NO,FILLER=64;

ISFUI:IFCIND=3, TIFMT=2,TEFMT=2,DTERM=01;

Hoping for more inputs.

Thanks and regards.

have you restarted ILNP?

STUNI on ILNP will show if anything is received on switch

what does netstat show, is the port open?

Apparently, it has something to do with Windows Firewall. When I turn the firewall OFF, everything seems to be fine.

I got the port up by adding the programs for DNA as well as the GICI port in the firewall exceptions list so it is open. But after turning ON the firewall, the port is intermittent... up then suddenly goes down then up again. MEW then also does not work.

The DNA Server running Windows 2003 Server is used as the OWS client and is also used for internet access that is why the client requires the firewall ON.

Does anyone have a list of all the ports that DNA programs and OWS uses especially for MEW?

Here are logs I took which you can view.
Thanks again in advance.

switch the firewall off and run wireshark trace and you can see what server port is used - and if dynamic you will need to open a TCP range in the firewall.

Thanks parnum. I'll try your instructions and let you know how it goes.

Best Regards.

I checked the ports and the NIU uses a dynamic one. But I cannot recreate the problem at our lab. In the lab, I can get the GICI port up and the MEW working by simply adding these 3 programs to the exceptions list of the firewall:

opi.exe (Operator workstation)
owsuper.exe (OWS Supervisor)
remoteds.exe

But in our customer site, I have also added them, the GICI port as well as all the other programs DNA uses to the exception list. When the firewall is turned ON, the port goes up and down intermittently.

NIU Connection GICI/CSTA ERICSSON1 On [DNA-SERVER2]NIU<==>5005 With Client [172.20.18.1]NIU<==>9507 Has Been Terminated

Established TCP/IP Connection GICI/CSTA ERICSSON1 On [DNA-SERVER2]NIU<==>5005 With Client [172.20.18.1]NIU<==>9509

- it looks like maybe the range of 95xx ports TCP need to also be opened in the firewall? (these are maybe allocated by windows so hard to get the range smaller), I would try this next.

best parnum

also maybe a better way you can open by MAC address TCP traffic both ways

niu-server
server-client

then if client is DHCP will still go through the firewall on server or client.

best parnum

Thanks parnum. I Understand your suggestion, it is just that Windows Firewall only allows port and/or program exceptions. If it were a firewall like Zone Alarm, then I could simply allow an or a range of IP or MAC addresses.

I have also observed that the NIU uses a dynamic port but so far from 93xx-95xx. It may be more. Ideally, opening up the GICI port on the local computer where the firewall is at should work, as it does not care what port number the other end uses.

I will run wireshark when I go back to the customer site and trace both when firewall is on/off then post what I find here.

I am still at a loss but will keep looking for answers.

I appreciate all your help.
