In some message, they give a IE error, saying the page doesn't exist. Of course when viewing through Outlook the e-mail is there. I can't seem to find a trend with the unviewable e-mails in OWA... anyone have an idea on why OWA can't display some of these e-mails?

I've seen this a few times recently, and cannot figure it out. I would be delighted to see if anyone can explain..!

Look at the source in Outlook, if they are HTML. There may be something in the unviewables that particular IE does not like, like a script or so.

It may also be helpful to look at the W3SVC logs on the Exchange server in question. They may provide you with more specifics on why OWA can't find the local file.

Are you running URLScan or IISLockdown?

Do you get any errors in the App log?

As jbud pointed out, URLScan is a likely culprit. In its default configuration, it disallows several characters in a URL. If the subject line of a message contains one of those characters, OWA will not be able to display it. There is a MS KB article that tells how to configure URLScan for use with OWA.

In OWA this problem seems to occur to any mail which contains a full stop in the subject. In fact, any punctuation in the subject may cause this problem. if the subject is left blank or punctuation free then OWA will always open the message.

The above are all good and valid replies.

To add to them, if the email was from a Mac then the problem is that Macs do not add the .xxx to the files. Exchange 2000 has a hard time handling this. Have the Mac user add an extention or receive the email using a full email client.

Tim
