I have just set up OWA and im pretty sure i did it right but yes the big but. It seems that when i pull up the
and the username and password prompt comes up and i type username and password in there it wont let me in. Even with admin password. Have i overlooked something small.

Which ID do i need to prefix with my domain. and also would that use my nt securities if i do prefix it with it

you'd prefix the user ID, so for example if your domain is EUROPE and your login ID is JOE, you'd enter this at the login prompt:

EUROPE\JOE

followed by your password.

ok well now im not even getting the username and password box to come up it just goes right into the outlook web access.

I have a similar issue, but am sure it is due to NT account access rights. I set up OWA on Exchange 5.5 SP4 which is on a test NT4 PDC. I set up a test mailbox, and can connect to it fine through OWA from a test client machine, but only if I use the Exchange Services Account username and password for logon. If I try using the primary NT Account for that test mailbox (a standard domain user) I can't gain access. If I check the Event Viewer on the PDC is gives Event ID 100 - user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

If this is a rights thing, what do I need to change?

I get the same thing sometime where I get the box before OWA or I don't but I always get OWA and a login box afterwords. I'm just guessing but I think the first box doesn't show sometimes cause the information is cached in Internet Explorer. This is not a problem other than a possible security issue.

We have NT authenication also (for now). You need to make sure that every account that you wish to use IIS has an is able to logon locally to the computer running OWA. In other words you will have to make sure that the "primary NT account for the test mailbox" can logon locally to the computer running OWA. This is an IIS thing.

Hope I was able to help everyone.

"You need to make sure that every account that you wish to use IIS *OWA not IIS* is able to logon locally to the computer running OWA."

Thanks for that Pddxr. I later traked down an article on Technet and got the relevant information.

As for the default domain login settings, I can't seem to find that. I thought it may be a part of the Exchange Webmail data, as opposed to the IIS data. Either way, if you remember where this is it would be useful - a lot of users forget to type the domain before their username and it has the potential to cause frustration.

Go to the properties of exchange in IIS.
Go to the Directory Security tab.
Click the edit button under Anonymous access and authentication control.
Under Authenticated access put a check in the box next to Basic authentication and click the edit button.
Type your domain name in the Domain Name box and click ok.
Close out and you should be set.
