I have just recently installed this Microsoft update:
MS03-047 - Vulnerability in Exchange Server 5.5 Outlook Web
Access Could Allow Cross-Site Scripting Attack (828489).
Now every time I log on to OWA I get this error:

"The Microsoft Exchange Server is down or the HTTP service has been disabled by an administrator. Please try your request again later. "

I have checked the server configuration, the protocols are enabled etc. and I'm not sure what went wrong. Anyone else has these problems?

Yeah, i'm having the same problems after installing the 828489 update. Checked the protocols, permissions, services etc, all running, restarted and still the same, exact error message you're getting. Might be an IIS reinstall. Will let you know when I sort it out!. If anyone has managed to resolve this, please post and explain!!!

Thanks :)

steve.

I simply reinstalled OWA, IIS seems fine. I could not however reapply the patch, every time I do I keep getting the same error over and over again. Wierd.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try this and let you know how it goes - should work :)

Thanks again.

Stephen.

Yup, that worked fine - thanks for the feedback!!

FYI and for those that might be having the same problem :

- Back up the Exchsrvr\Webdata directory on the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.
- Run the Microsoft Exchange Server Setup program (from the CD), and then choose the Add/Remove option.
- Cancel the selection of the Outlook Web Access component, and then continue with the Setup program to remove the Outlook Web Access component.
- Delete the Webdata directory.
- Run the Setup program again, and then select the Outlook Web Access component.
- Continue with the Setup program to perform a clean installation of the Outlook Web Access components.

There's no need to delete the Webdata directoy.

If MS03-047 Patch is determined to be the problem, why not just uninstall this patch. It seems much less complex than uninstalling and resinstalling the OWA components

I am all of a sudden today having the same issue. I did not install any patches, and I do not see the patch you are all talking about installed. I re-installed sp6a, same problem

vxnguyen, uninstalling the patch requires a reboot, reinstalling OWA does not and it takes less than 5 min.

I am running Windows 2000 Advenced Server and Exchange 5.5 OWA , and am getting this problem. I do not see that hotfix installed...
