Can anyone tell me how to do OVERHEAD PAGING from desk phones on a Nortel Option81C?

assuming you have overhead paging already you should list your routes and locate the paging route (hopefully it will say PAG). Then print that RDB and get the access code. Then, provided your phones are not blocked via tgar/targ, they should be able to dial this paging ACOD (access code).

I'm very new to the system as I have just taken it over, what loads would I look in?

I went into LD 20 did a PRT: of PAG and it shows nothing, I did a PRT of our MUS route and it has 2 so, I'm assuming this means it was never setup?

Am I on the right track?

go to LD 21 and at the REQ type LTM (list trunk members). Enter cust # (usually 0) and carriage return through the rest. Then look for a route with one TN. Hopefully it will say PAG. If you find that you are then going to print that route (also in 21) at REQ type PRT at TYPE enter RDB. At ROUT enter the route number and then look for the ACOD (access code). Give it a shot and if you get stuck anywhere just post back.

I have found the acess code in the load it is 8989 and the route is ROUTE 9.

From the attendant console you can overhead page, but from a regular phone when you use 8989 all you get is dead air.

Is there something else that I am missing when you do over head paging from an supervisor phone?

Still loss... :)

are you sure it's dead air you're getting as opposed to actually being connected to the paging system? If not, perhaps you're being blocked via TARG/TGAR. Print route 9 in LD 21 (req prt, type rdb) and look for TARG. then print the phone trying to page and look at their TGAR. Post both.

okay, I hope I'm not steering you in the wrong direction but you said you got dead air when you dialed the access code. NTP states that the options (depending on how your cust. data block is configured) you will get if you are blocked from that route are either overflow tone, attendant or recorded announcement. I would try changing the TGAR on the phone to 0. Again, though, are you sure you're getting dead air and aren't actually connected to your paging system? also, since your attendant can access the paging please post that TN as well.

try a # after the acod, then do a trac in load 80. i didn't take time to read all the replys but connect a test set to the tn then dial the acod, decide if the trouble is getting to the paging or in your switch. with a 4 digit acod you have to wait for the inter digit timer and then the end of dial time and answer supervision, if your start is imm then that is another timer to wait for. the # (end of dial seq) bypasses those timers. if it was tgar you would get a busy your bypassing ncos by dialing the acod. tgar targ only works if it is on in load 86. prt esn

if your dialing 8989# and getting a busy your. look at the tgar on your trunk, it can't match your targ on the set

the TARG is on the trunk and the TGAR is on the set. Print the TGAR from your phone. If it matches the TARG on the route you're blocked from that route.

Say if the TRUNK is set at 0 or 1 or 2, what would the phone set need to be? Maybe this will give me some insight...

Nothing like learning via the WEB....

I also want to thank everyone for all of this help. I truly appreciate it, since eveyone walked out the door, I'm in a pinch.

tgar and targ can not match. that is the block. the trunk can have more the one targ. the station can have one targ.
just can't have a match. on a atation just make and e chg
on the trunk procede the number with an x. tgar x1, that assumes that targ is turned on in ld 86,

change the phone's TARG to 0. You may then, possibly, allow this set to access other trunk routes it's not supposed to but give it a try to see if you can at least access your paging route.
