Hello,

I'm having some problems with Outlook Express and Outlook 2000 to the point where I've downloaded Eudora but I can't even import data from outlook.

On starting Outlook Express, the following error occurs:
"/!\ Outlook could not be started because MSOE.dll could not be loaded"

Outlook 2000 starts ok and recieves email but cannot send email and throws the following errors when attempting to send mail:
"OUTLOOK.EXE - Entry Point Not Found
(X) The procedure entry point StrTokEx could not be located in the dynamic link library MSOERT2.dll"

Pressing the "ok" button to the previous error fires another error:
"/!\ An error occured while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB DLL."

OS is Windows 2000 Pro.

How can I fix these problems?

Thanks,
Rick

Both these files get installed when IE is installed.
Was curious if the MSOE.DLL file was present on your system? It should be under C:\Program files\Outlook Express folder. If it is present try running the command from the RUN line

Regsvr32 msoe.dll

and see if it registers the library file successfully or not. If it does try OE again and see if you get the same message.

The error you get in Outlook is basically translating to that the something is calling for the C function StrTokEx in the library file MSOERT2.DLL which is kind of interesting becuase I don't see where that function is on either of the DLL file version I have.

What version of IE do you have installed? I have IE 5 so I may be comparing apples to oranges.

Hello,

At the time I had 5.5. I discovered that the DLL's came with IE 5.5 but that version is no longer available from Microsoft so I tried installing IE 6 to no effect.

MSOE.DLL is present on my system as are the other DLL's.

Running the command you mentioned at the command line returns this error:

"/!\ LoadLibrary("msoe.dll") failed - The specified procedure could not be found."

As an FYI, my system went down a couple of days ago and refused to boot. I removed the hard disk and attached it to another system I have and used that system to run Norton Utilities on the disk. It fixed some errors. I put the disk back into the original system and ran the scsi utility in my AHA2940UW and it repaired a bad block. The machine then was able to boot. Since the box booted I then ran Norton again and it "fixed hundreds" of registry entries.... I wonder if it broke something...

I also downloaded and installed the second service pack for W2K.

Would removing IE and reinstalling do the trick? Should I also remove Outlook? How would I uninstall it?

Thanks,
Rick

Sounds like you do have some other .DLL missing or the wrong versions of the files.

Yes I would try the simplest approach first then by removing IE and reinstalling it. Hopefully it is still possible to uninstall it correctly under your circumstances. IE is so finicky with the uninstall procedure.

With Outlook you can try repairing the application first and if not then uninstalling and reinstalling. In your Control Panel go to ADD/Remove programs and look for Office 2000 when you select it the Office 2000 menu should appear with the options to Repair Office or ADD/REMOVE programs. Make sure you still have the CD to reinstall.

Good luck. If none of this works and depending on your determination and technical level there are a couple of utilities that can help shed some light on what is going on in the background. REGMON and FILEMON for starters from sysinternals.com montiors Registry and File activity. Also a real good one is Depends from dependencywalker.com which shows you indepth what dll files are called by a program and when something is wrong with a dll such as the EntryPointNotFound error. All are free utilities.
