Hi,

I have Outlook 2000 installed on an XP sp2 laptop. I recently changed the user's password and ever since, he's always prompted for his new password whenever he starts outlook. He's connecting to Exchange 2000.

The other thing I've noticed is that he's also having intermittent problems connecting to shared folders and printers on the server (the exchange server is also acting as a file/print server). He has no problems connecting to shares on other servers.

If I change his password back, everything works fine.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Cheers,

Tom

Check Outlook, Tools, Accounts. In there is the password option - ensure it is NT Authentication (I think) otherwise it will cause problems.

Hi Zelandakh,

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately because I'm connecting to an exchange server (using the corporate setup), I don't have Accounts in my tools menu.

This could be caused by a number of issues, but noticing his problems authenticating on that particular server it looks like it may be a domain authenticiation issue/AD issue which could be:
1, When he is logging into his computer he isn't logging into the domain hence ths password not working when you changed it.
When he is logging on to his laptop is he logging into the domain or the computer (in the drop down box)? Is he logging in with his full UPN (i.e. user@domain.com)? Did you change his password on the domain or his laptop?
2, As Zelandakh suggested check for NT authentication right click on the Outlook Shortcut on the desktop go to Properties, select -> Microsoft Exchange Server -> Properties-> Advanced-> in the bottom drop down box it should say NT password Authenticiation, if not change it.
3, Is the Exchange server a Domain Controller? If it is it may be having replication issues between other domain controllers within the organisation. Check the Event viewer log for any errors.

Yeah, he's logged in locally. When you change his password on the server you'll have to change it on his local computer as well or you can just configure his profile under the domain login.
