We are currently using Exchange 5.5 and have Outlook 2000 as our email software.

Is there a way of limiting certain user permissions so that they cannot get into out Global Adress list. We want to be able to assign certain users to only being able to send emails to certain address lists or to certain users.

Is this possible with Exchange 5.5???

Thanks

Richard

Does this mean it is possible though or not??

If so where do I need to look. Exchange Server 5.5 is not something I have used before.

Our IT Services Team are telling me this is not possible, but I'm not convinced, hence my posting.............

You can prevent views of the Global address book or any custom address book by preventing the "search" permission in the roles of the exchange groups. To do this you will need to set up Container Level Search Control using Address Book Views. Take note that this will not work for any mailbox whose associated Windows NT account has permissions on objects that give them inherited rights to the Address Book Views. These mailboxes will still be able to view the complete global address list.

In short, this involve several steps, including creating a custom role in exchange, based on the NT account grouping of the people you don't want to view the Gloable Address Book. If this sounds too vague to you then you should not attempt this since it can render an Exchange disaster in your company.

The alternative to this is by setting send/receive permissions on individual mailboxes.

I don't know, everyone seems to want information spoon-feeding to them these adys instead of doing a little work for themselves. I put "exchange 5.5 address book views" into Google, and the 7th hit was which is an excellent Tony Redmond discussion on ABVs and how they can be used.
