My messages seem to be downloading into my local mailbox automatically. I am using Outlook 2000 and XP.

Normally this happens when the Outlook program is running, but now I get the small "envelope" notification in the task bar that tells me new messahes have arrived. I can't look at my (Earthlink) messages in webmail unless the PC is shut off.

I have used this software for a few years without this happening until now. Is this ISP related?

How can I stop the messages from downloading?

I ran some tests and it’s not doing it now.
A fellow tech suggested that I check to see if Outlook was running in the background. It wasn’t running minimized at the time this was happening.

I think it may have been a temporary server issue. A few days ago I was getting two copies of every message, that issue went away too.

Was Word or another mapi-enabled program running?

Often times if a mapi program is running when you "close" Outlook, many of the processes that Outlook relies on still stay alive - even though Outlook itself is not shown on the active process list.

Word seems to be especially bad at this.

Mintjulip, thats a thought. I may have had Word running at the time. I should have mentioned I also had another PC on my (DSL) network running Outlook, but that PC's Outlook was set to "keep Messages on server"
The next time this mhappens I'll check to see what processes are running.
I still think it was a server issue.
