Someone in our office got nervous/impatient during a network slowdown, started trying everything and ended up with a lot of his old Outlook items missing and a new icon on his desktop pointing to (username).pst. How can I help him get these files back into their appropriate Outlook folders? As of now we cannot even open them. I understand that the pst extension refers to a data format for archives but this is as far as I have gotten. Perhaps I need a big fat book about MSOffice?

TIA

you can remove the .PST or re-locate the .PST to a server.

what version of Outlook?

You should be able to open the .pst file, and move the messages to the correct folder.

Click file / open / outlook data file, and find the one on the desktop - then highligh the mesages, choose move to folder, and select the one you want to move them to.

Then delete the .pst file from the desktop.

You could try opening Outlook, hit "File" then "Import and Export..." The you have to chose "Import from another program or file" Scroll down until you see "Personal file folder (.pst)" and you should be home. ...... I think
