Email received by outlook contains link to picture or *.asp URL.

I want to reply to this email, but stubborn Outlook does not allow me to do this, unless I download picture or URL from Internet.

But I don't want to download them! Why I have to allow some tracker to check something? I simply want to reply to this email in plain text, without downloading anything.

Editing of such message is also impossible, Outlook again wants to download something.

Are there any means to prevent downloading of online content?

I agree: it is infuriating and a security issue too. Go to Microsoft.com, Office Support and there's a section for users to make comments and suggestions.

I think I got around this for one of our users a year or so ago by going into IE options ->advanced tab and unchecking "enable install on demand (other)".

We've got both of the "enable install on demand" options disabled by default now and I'm sure that the email issue was one of the reasons we disabled it.

Cheers.

That's an interesting observation. That I will check. Thanks.

Well, in my case it doesn't work or absolutely unrelated.
I have both "Enable install on demand" unchecked, and still have the issue described.

Outlook 2003, latest MSIE with all patches, etc.

Doesn't work for me either.

OK, sorry I couldn't help you.

I know we had that issue at one time and we don't now. It was over a year ago and I can't remember how the user or I resolved it. I know we played with varios settings both in IE an OL2K.

At some point we disabled the "install on demand" options as part of tightened security and other issues but, since both the user and I were trying to get the email problem fixed, I can't remember if the email issue was resolved before, after, or at the same time. I just remember that the user said it was no longer an issues. He's on holiday until mid-August. I'll ask him if he remembers what he did when he gets back.

Cheers.
