Help Please

I have a domain through UK2.net which comes with a free email address so that anyone emailing me is forwarded to my free email account.

I have set up a dialup connection and an email account based on the settings they have provided but I'm getting the following error messages when I try to send mail. I can receive mail fine and I can send and receive through their webmail service so it must be something to do with how I've set it up

I am using windows 2000 professional and outlook express.

error message below:-
The host 'smtp.uk2.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name rrectly. Account: 'mail.uk2.net', Server: 'smtp.uk2.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

The host 'mail.uk2.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.uk2.net', Server: 'mail.uk2.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I would also like to be able specify the email address that appears on replies, how do I do this?

Any pointers you think I can check would be helpful.

Many thanks

I looked at their dial up instructions and it seems pretty straight forwarard. You do have their DNS servers listed in your dial up connection to them?

When you are dialied in can you ping the server smtp.uk2.net.

As far as specifying your return e-mail address you will do that under TOOLS - ACCOUNTS - MAIL. Select your mail account and click on PROPERTIES and then go to the GENERAL Tab. The field E-mail address is where you specify this.

Contact the ISP's tech support for the address of the POP3 server for outgoing mail.

thanks, I'll try pinging and I've updated the email address field.

Where do I put the DNS info as there was no mention of this in the setup instructions, is it absolutely necessary?

Cheers

Oh yeah...very necessary.

Go to START - SETTINGS - NETWORK AND DIAL UP CONNECTIONS
Locate the icon for your dial up session to the ISP.
Right mouse click the icon and select Properties.

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties
Click "Use the following DNS server addresses" and then enter the DNS address listed on their setup page.

Click OK until all windows are closed. Then try dialing in and see if it works for you now.

Thanks for your help....I was searching through the help pages on UK2.net for something else and I found a FAQ that said do not use send and receive all as the server gets confused. I tried clicking on send and then receive and it works fine...thanks for all your help tho'
