I'm having an issue with Outlook and Outlook Express not being able to pull down email from an hotmail account. I'm getting a message stating that my version of hotmail (free) no longer works with these email clients.

When I google this to read up on it all I get are instructions on how to make the connection. Nothing so important as my issues shows up anywhere in my search.

Also, my Outlook 2k3 on my laptop logs on to hotmail just fine, although it's a secondary account that is being polled.

Any thoughts?

Dan

Hi Dan!

The issue is probably not with your version of Outlook/Outlook Express, but with the Pop3 access service provided by Hotmail. Since you have a free Hotmail account, you are being denied access. Were you to pay, I am sure that Hotmail would provide you with the proper Pop3 and Smtp server addresses. For Yahoo! for example, it used to be pop.mail.yahoo.com, but then Yahoo! cut off access to this feature for free accounts.

Wish I had a better answer, but you are probably going to have to pay for access.

Thank you, Tom, Smah and Speedle. I see that MS has denied access to this free account via Outlook & Outlook Express due to issues with spammers, etc. However, if I connect the old computer up and get it running, I'm able to use the Outlook Express to pull down mail, etc. That is why I was wondering if there is something I can 'copy' over from the old computer to the new one to get this 'feature' working on the new Windows XP Pro computer.

Tom: like yer message, bro. I too was born twice!

Actually, they denied this service to me for TWO years...and I have been paying for the access :)
A friend of mine is still able to get it for free and has upgraded Office but is still on her very old, slow computer. I will keep an eye on this post!
