Hi all

I have Outlook Express 6 installed as my mail client. But If I click on an email link I get the message "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not installed properly"
Outlook Express is set up as the mail client on the programs tab of Internet options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Run OE

Tools->Options-> bottom of page.

It is a good idea to be familiar with options, for security, reliability, & cetera.

Let me know if this does not fix it.

Thanks for the reply.

OE is set as the default mail client on Tools>Options.
All other functionality of OE works OK. Is there a way to reinstall OE ?

What OS are you running 98/2000/XP ??

Hello OD7

No 2k to test with at the moment.

I take it the usual ctrlPanel->addRemove->Windows->OE also does not work otherwise you would have unint\alled/reinstalled OE.

Sounds like a regitry job then.

I'll just lurk. Luck

Thanks for your time jnicks.

This is a file association error.

Open Windows Explorer
Tools-Folder Options-File Types
Look for the file assoication URL:MailTo Protocol
Select Advanced
Select the open action and click edit.
Enter the command
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1

(correct the path if you installed OE in a different folder) joegz

Thanks for the advice joegz. The path was correct for the file ext but there was no action associated with it.

Your help was much appreciated.
