Sometimes when opening Outlook Express for the first time, the whole computer locks and must be ALT-Cntrl Deleted to reboot. Fewer new messages actually show up than are indicated also. Could this be caused by not deleting enough messages. Is there a certain limit as to how many read e-mails can be stored? This is happening to someone at work and we're getting no answers there. Thank you for any insight.

Outlook Express Locks up computer

What are the system resources at on this machine? If they're below 75% that could be the reason OE is locking up the machine. Try a scan disk and defrag, and uninstalling unnecessary apps. Also, what is the Free Conventional Memory on this machine? To find out go, into Dos and type mem at the prompt and enter. For OE and Internet Explorer to run right it must be above 585k, if not that could be the issue also. There are ways to fix this depending on what version of Dos is on the machine, but I leave you to find out about that at your own risk. Hint: Look up MemMaker with your favorite search engine. Thank you for your reply. The computer is not running on Dos, it's Windows 95 and it's got 32 mg ram. After booting up, Outlook express is the first app to be opened. So there are no other open apps except as needed for the network connection. Thanks, kms
kms,<br><br> Just because Outlook is the only app you are running, that doesn't mean that Windows isn't consumming its resources with other services. When you Ctrl-Alt-Delete, you should see a box pop up with the services that are currently running. What you need to do is find out how many of your resources are free. There are several free apps that will tell you this. Your best best is Micro$oft's Kernel Toys and Power Toys.<br> <p>James P.
