I am running windows ME and using Outlook Express as my email client, I have no problems sending or receiving emails. I now decided to use Outlook 2000, I can not send or receive emails, I receive an error message "Can not find server" I have checked both accounts and they appear identical. I am also running Norton 2001, it is configured the same for both Outlook Express and Outlook.
I can still send and receive emails in Outlook Express.
I would appreciate some advise.

I think it depends on how you configured outlook 2000 because normally it runs with exchange server.
I didn't try if you can use it without exchange server.

What you can do is import your setting from Express to Outlook. This can be done from the mail outlook screen and then hit File- Import and export.

Are any of your mail server's localhost or 127.0.0.1 or something similar? Or are they something like mail.isp.com?

You haven't specified what flavor of Norton that you have, so, do you have Norton's firewall running? This could be preventing outbound traffic from Outlook. If that's not it, then we'll need some more info about your setup:

Corporate Worgroup or Internet Mail Only Mode (can be found in Help, About if you're not sure)? If Corporate Workgroup, what other services are running (Tools, Services)?

Firstly, I had a major computer crash, lost everything on the drive, have installed a new drive and starting from scratch.
I am using Norton System Works 2001.4. I have installed Winfax lite edition which is part of the Norton package, not sure if I was using this before. My system is Windows ME, Outlook 2000, Internet Explorer 6.00, Have not installed any of the SP patches from Microsoft. The setting appear the same for Outlook Express. My e-mail is Set for Internet only, I am not running any other tools or utilities.
When I click Send/Receive only receiving appears in the window.
Please advise if you require any other info.

I did a little research and it appears that System Works 2001 does not have a firewall component. So that's not it unless you have some other software firewalls installed.

If you are able to correctly send & recieve with OE and Outlook has the same mail server & username settings, I don't know what's wrong. (Be sure you have also double checked the SMTP athentication settings). There are some conflicts between some versions of Winfax and some versions of Outlook, but my search didn't turn up anything with the combination that you have. You could try removing Winfax and installing the Outlook SP's to see if either might cure the problem. Outlook 2000 isn't too forthcoming with the actual send/recieve error messages when it fails and I don't have Outlook 2K here to experiment with.

smah, Thanks for the info. I do not have any firewalls, I have installed SP 1a and SP 2 for office 2000. This did not fix the problem. Then Winfax was uninstalled this did not fix the problem. I then deleted my mail settings from Outlook and rebooted the computer, then retyped the mail settings, then rebooted the computer, went on line and can still only receive e-mails but can not send. Do you have any other suggestions? I would appreciate your advise.
