Getting an error in outlook express when connecting to POP servers of my isp.

An Unknown TCP/IP error occurred 0x800CCC40

This error seems to relate to Winsock.

Have reset the tcp/ip stack using the netsh int ip reset command and also reset the winsock and winsock 2 registry entries using winsockxpfix

Anyone any other ideas?

Anyone?

This error is really annoying.

Someone must have an answer somewhere!

Cheers

uhm..

Error Number Error Type Description
0x800CCC40 WINSOCK_WSASYSNOTREADY Network subsystem is unusable.

try in a dos box this:

netsh winsock reset

and restart..

Sorry

Forgot to mention already tried resetting the winsock using netshell. No joy.....

All other net access seems fine.

Check the settings of the account.
unless the ISP requires secure password authentication make sure none of those boxes are checked (server tab and advanced)
Can you telnet to the mail server?
explains how to do it you will need to substitute your ISP settings).
Have you shut down any firewalls and anti virus programs and tried email after doing so?
Have you tried creating a new identity and setup the email in the new identity and then tried accessing email?

vcsinfo - As mentioned above have tried winsockfix and winsockxpfix

tlccousin - Deleted all accounts withing outlook.
Recerated one pop3 account with server settings which i know are correct.
Can access email via webmail and also telnet on port 110
using same credentials as those entered into oultook.
Firewall/Virus software disabled.

On a side not, I have used sysinternals tcpview software to monitor the tcp ports when opening outlook express.
It seems that OE is not binding itself to the tcp protocol.
Their are no entries indicating that it has opened any prots to communicate on. I know normally this is not the case, you can normally see the OE executable in the list as msimn.exe.

Any more clues?

I am having this issue as well, however it's on our exchange 2003 server. The affected users can still logon via OWA with no problem. The outlook clients can recieve but not send mail. I am able to telnet into 25 & 110 from the clients workstations. I have tried using the clients ISP smtp server but that is not working either. Strange thing is that the clients can connect to other SMTP server, just not our exchange server via pop.

The users have been calling in over the past 5 days saying they have no access. We try OWA but OWA will not work until we reset the user account password.
I'm guessing this has to to with the recent updates that were pushed out. I have removed the service paks but that just coruptted the TCP protocol which now needs to be reinstalled - tough to do on remote clients.

Andy have you made any progress on this issue? I also have another IT friend who is having the same problem...

Thanks,
Dennis

Trying looking in your task manager for a process called McVSEscn.exe.

If this is their end process on it.

Then go into your email and try.

Cheers

Does OE work in safe mode with networking?
Have you looked at the installed protocols and if more than TCP/IP is installed uncheck the others restart and then try again.
