Using Outlook 2003. For some reason I frequently get the following error message when I attempt to reply to an email.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'abc@cebridge.net' on 6/30/2006 7:59 AM
550 relaying mail to cebridge.net is not allowed

'abc@alltel.net' on 6/30/2006 7:59 AM
550 relaying mail to alltel.net is not allowed

Any clue why? I checked my Norton Internet Security and couldn't find any setting that would cause this, but I know NIS seems to have a mind of its own.

relaying mail to cebridge.net is not allowed
would be my guess. It's either your mail server or theirs. If it is only some people I would suspect their server.

The answer is "42"

I would accept that if it wasn't also several others and if I didn't have this problem when sending from my Mac. I only included cebridge and Alltel in my question, but my email also had the same rejection from Netscape, Hotmail and SBCGlobal.

So, if you have this problem with the mac also it's got to be the server. Check the settings as to whether your server allows relay.

The answer is "42"

Is the SMTP server yours, or are you trying to send via a server that is not physically in your namespace?

This is a common problem if for instance, you pop your email from one server (work for instance), but reply through a network (home isp maybe) that refuses relay (and why shouldnt it!).

Most isp's allow popping from any server, but smtp is only allowed through the specified account on their server, and whilst on their network.

I guess the first question should be have you managed to send emails to the domains stated successfully before using the exact same procedure as generates the errors?!

I'm having a similar problem and I don't think it is to do with the server as the message seems to come from Outlook-1.The error message appears in users inbox immediately on sending 2. In the options of the message there is no internet header-meaning it does not come from the internet?
Did you ever solve this-it seems to happen periodically/randomly.

Never did solve it and it still occurs for me on occassion also.

Next time it does, try and have a look at the internet header for the bounce back-is it blank?
Also, are using some kind of Norton/Symantec product with the email auto protect turned on?
The problem is that it might happen with an email now but resend the same email 5 mins later and it goes through.
I can't figure it out but i think that Outllok must have to send some kind of authlogin command when logging into the mail server-but it doesn't seem to get even that far.
Where does outlook log stuff?

I had the same problem when I upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002. I have two accounts, one POP and one MS-Exchange.

The problem only occurs when I am replying to a message that was sent to my POP account. After I hit reply, there is a yellow banner near the top of the window saying that Outlook will use my POP account to reply. If I switch the account to the Exchange Server, I never get a bounce back message. To switch the account, use the Accounts dropdown beside the Send button.

I hope this is helpful.

i am getting the same error as stated above and it happens with only one addy and it dont happen all the time. I am thinking it is the yahoo server from what the post describes but i am unsure
