Outlook doesn't download emails correctly

I have a user that has outlook setup on his computer, and can see new emails come in, but they don't appear in his email box. His last emails he can see are from 2006.

But when he disconnects from the internet completely and restarts outlook, he can see the emails that start after 2006 and go to present.

I know he is getting the emails because I can see the alert pop up, but it just can't be seen until they disconnect.
Has anyone seen anything like this?

Sounds like a corrupt profile.

Is this a stand alone machine or attached to an Exchange server?
