I have been trying to autoarchive messages from my mailbox to no success. The archive seems to work and I get a folder and mailbox listing, but no email. It doesn't delete my email from my mailbox (thank goodness). All it does is create a copy of my directory structure. I am using Outlook 2002 sp1 connecting to exchange. I have other users with the same problem so it may be an exchange thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Eric

Have you checked the folder archive settings match those on the Options Menu - they may be set to archive on different lengths of time. Right mouse click on each folder and sub folder of your mailbox select select properties > auto-archive, and check the "archive items in this folder using the default settings" checkbox. The folder default is set to six months - you may have set the options to less but this will not overide individual folder settings.

I also came across this problem in the course of my work - The answer I belive is that Outlook does not Archive on the sent or received date but the modified date. If you open up one of the mails that you cannot archive, Then File > properties, you will probably find the last modfied date much later than the sent/rec'd date. This date changes if you move or re-open the mail.

One reason Outlook was not archiving messages for myself was despite the fact that I set autoarchive options on the folder level, within Tools>Options>Other>Autoarchive, I did not select "Archive or delete old items" under the "During Autoarchive" section.

It appears that you have set a default archive folder in order to start the archive process.
