Can anyone help with this one:

I have a client which has a problem finding his contacts in Outlook 2000. If he looks in the folder list under contacts he can see all his contacts. But if he goes to compose and then selects To: the contacts don't appear in this list???

Kind regards

Mike

On your Outlook Client check the following:

Open the Folder List view, Right-click on the Contacts folder, click on the Outlook Address Book tab and add the checkmark in: Show this folder as an email address book.

Also, check your Services (Tools/Services) to make sure you have the Outlook Address Book service installed.

Oops... Right-click on the Contact Folder and SELECT PROPERTIES..

Edit that in .. hehe.

Thank you,

everthing is already there but still the same problem :(

You must restart Outlook. (This includes closing all open emails and such).

Easier to just relog to make sure.

Even better rebooted win2k, but still the same. Not so long ago this clients email went missing after a server reboot now he is saying this has started to happen with his contacts. He is 100% virus free and nobody else is affected on the exchange server :(

Try redoing it from scratch:

-Enter the Services, REMOVE the Address Book: <name>
-Right-Click on the Users Contacts, Address book, remove checkmark. (Make sure this is the RIGHT Contacts Folder!)

- Close and reopen Outlook and repeat the steps above.

click the address book icon in Outlook toolbar, go to Tools, Options. Click the drop down box under Show This Address First, click Contacts all the way at the bottom.
click ok.

That made no difference but now the contacts show up straight away without selecting them. I have set back to Global contacts again now.

The original problem still exists :(

When you click on the To... and pull down the list, do you see: Outlook Adress Book

and underneath should be: Contacts

I've seen problems where a user has several Contacts in his listing and some don't work because they have removed the PST it was on, but never the opposite, where you can't add it.

Make sure you have the latest Outlook 2000 (it's up to SR-3a), just in case this was a known bug ;-)

I get it, I thought you had a problem with the views. I checked on my computer and the folders do appear in the list but the DLs do not. Make sure what your user is referring to is indeed a folder and not a Distribution List.

yep thats right the DL's don't show. But that's ok. My problem has now been fixed. Seems XP Home is the problem here. When we first purchased new PC's for the company we purchased Dell's with XP Home and we needed Pro so we can join a domain. Yesterday I upgraded this users to XP Pro and now the contacts appear in Outlook ok? somehow the O/S must affect Outlook 2k.

Thank you all for you help on this matter.
