I tried moving my personal folder (*.pst) from one machine to another by
1) copy the .pst file from source machine
2) replacing the .pst file at the destination machine with that copied in 1)

I could see all mail messages and contacts even on the destination PC.

However, if I try to create a new message, then click on the <To>, <CC> or <BCC> button, I get the following error message
The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the outlook address book, see microsoft outlook help.

Then I could see the select Names dialog box, which are all blank, despite having a non-empty contacts folder. If I then look at the drop down list on the right hand side, I could see
Code:
Outlook Address Book
Contacts
Contacts

i.e. Contacts is duplicated. If I then proceed to select the second Contacts, I could see all the names in my contacts folder.

I tried going to Tools->Services->Outlook Address Books, and I see Two entries for contacts. Removing either one does NOT resolve the problem.

How could I resolve the problem??

remove both from outlook address book. Go in to outlook and right click on the contact list you DO want to use and add that to the outlook address book.

Tried that, didn't work... there's still two contacts as soon as I tight click contacts->Show this as Outlook Address Book.

It sounds like you might be connecting to someone elses contacts (that may have previously uses the computer). Try this: Go to Tools, Service, then the Addressing tab, remove both contacts.

Now, Open your Folders list and click the push pin to keep the list open.
Locate the Contact list you wish to search. (You may need to click a plus sign to find it. It may be a subdirectory.)
Right-click on the Contact list and select Properties.
Click the Outlook Address Book tab in the Properties dialog box and check the box to show this folder as an e-mail address book (see *note if this is not available), then close the Properties dialog box.

Next, go to the Tools menu and select Services.
In the Services window, select the Addressing tab and click the Add button at the bottom.
Select the Contact list and click the Add button. The Contact list address book should appear in the lower section of the Addressing window.
To adjust the priority Outlook uses to search the address books, click on an address book to select it and use the up and down arrows to the right to move it higher or lower in the list. The Global address book should always remain first in the list.
When finished, click OK to close the Services window.

(*Note: If the checkbox doesn't appear or is grayed out:
Go to the Tools menu, Services, then click the Add button, select Outlook Address Book from the list, then click OK. You must logout in order for the new service to be added.)
