We have some users whose outlook client takes long to sync. You get the synchronizing folders that brings the PC to a halt. This does not affect Mac users, OWA users, nor mobile users. On a few of the 50 or so PC's I uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection- same results. Any server side items I should look at?

Check you're running Exchange 2007 SP3 RU7
Get Windows fully patched
Check the client side AV is set correctly with file level exclusions per documentation with your product.
Check Outlook is fully patched
Is Outlook using MAPI or OA? If MAPI, check app log. If OA, check the RCA logs. Probably not OA since OWA users are fine.
Are the clients in cached mode or online mode? Sounds like cached is you are doing a sync.

Check autodiscover just in case.

heck you're running Exchange 2007 SP3 RU6
Windows/outlook fully patched
I unistalled AV for a few users
Outlook using MAPI- cached mode.
Again, mac mail, OWA, Iphones, droids all work fine- just MS outlook 2007
The crippling folder sync just started happening.A user here and there- I would look at the user- 60% of business use PC MS Outlook and now users are now looking at me. Any ideas?

Run away?
Do you have AV on the server?
Check the app log. Looking for 9646, 623, 9528, any errors to start with. May also have to look for warnings but that is a can of worms.
Maybe they are hitting a throttling policy - what version of Outlook and which service pack?
If O2010, Ctrl right click on the Outlook system tray icon and check the connection status. Is it disconnected, connecting or what?

Put AV back on the clients - that's not the issue and you're exposing yourself. So to speak.

NO AV running on the server.Check the App log and did not see those Event id's. We are running Outlook 2007 sp3.
Since from the same PC- OWA works fine and Outlook freezes. What is the difference in the communication- since both access the same database on the server. I see that if I go into task manager the Outlook client is using more memory than the IE browser. IS there some other background communication going on when using Outlook?

OWA uses https, Outlook uses MAPI. Slow Outlook in MAPI could be one of many options. What the connection status during the issue?

If you go to online mode in Outlook, what happens?

Anything in the client side application event logs to indicate what is going on?

No AV on the server? Seriously? That's brave.
