Hi All.

I have searched the forum but I have been unable to find a similar issue.

I have a user who is unable to open Rich Text format emails in outlook. The user can open plain text and HTML format emails.

I have uninstalled office totally and reinstalled a newer version. However the email still will not open.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi DOMAL,

this could be a MS Word-related problem.
Deselect the checkbox "Edit Rich text mails in Microsoft Word" und "Tools-->Options-->E-Mail format".

If that solves it, perform a repair installation on MS Word.

Best to not use Word for mail editing anyway.

Cheers,
MiS

Hi MiS

I've tried that, sadly it didnt work. I would upload screenshots but our firewall wont let them through.

So basically, before opening an email it says in the reading pane: "This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents"

Upon double-clicking the email to open it I get the error
"Can't open this item."

When trying to forward it to another user so they can open it I get the error:
"Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editer. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead"

Thats fine, I can work with that but I click ok and it terminates and goes back to inbox.

It definatley a software issue as the user can log into another PC and access their emails and open rich text emails.

As I said, I've totally reinstalled office and it's still not solved the problem.

Thanks

DOMAL

In that case, the message is quite clear, as is the solution:
Deselect the checkbox "Edit Rich text mails in Microsoft Word" und "Tools-->Options-->E-Mail format".

Best to not use Word for mail editing anyway.

PS the "und" is supposed to be "under". So navigate through the Outlook menu to said point and deselect said checkbox.
Voilà.
