ah yes, it's the little things in life that are most important. Like being able to type "dotty" in the address line of an email in outlook and knowing that the email address will be pulled automatically from my address book.

I just upgraded from outlook 2000 to 2002 as part of the MS Office xp suite.

I have changed the ".nk2" file to a ".bak" and I have run the repair process from the office xp CD. still I have no autocomplete functionality in my outlook.

I even tried deleting the nicknames from individual contacts, saving them, and then putting the nickname back in, but that does nothing...

any ideas... this little detail is driving me into a meltdown...

thx,

I saw that kb article, too.
it doesn't help.

thanks though.

Don't know if this will help....

Only Outlook 2002 and 2003 support Autocomplete. Also known as suggest names, this is the feature that shows addresses of people you’ve sent messages to previously and you can select matches as you begin typing. You can’t seed the list with names from your address book, the feature collects them when you send new messages or reply. You can clear the autocomplete cache by deleting the *.NK2 file for your profile or delete one address at a time by using the arrow key to select it as you type and then Delete. Like autoresolve, you can turn it on or off in Tools, Options, Email Options, Advanced Options.

Hope this helps.

orlotron,

I know it doesn't help, in the sense that you are no closing to making it work, but the KB article does tell you that it is no longer supported in the version you are using!

I thought that if you knew it wasn't supported, it would save you time trying to make it work.

The key line in the KB article is:-

NOTE: This feature was available in the Internet Mail Only (IMO) installation of Microsoft Outlook 98 and Microsoft Outlook 2000.

I checked on Slipstick, and they also list it as an unsupported feature in Outlook 2002/3.

They say:-

Use of the Nickname field for address resolution -- You can type a name in the Nickname field on a contact, but Outlook 2002 ignores it during the "check names" function. One solution is to edit the contact and change the display name for one of the email addresses to the nickname that you want to use. Another workaround is to create a distribution list in Contacts with the name your want to use as a nickname and include the single contact as the only member.

That's all I can find.

Rik
