Outlook app on iphone 12 (ios 14) not fetching email automatically

Helly guys,
It is very frustrating and I am having this issue on my boss iphone 12 (ios 14).
I have another iphone 6 with the same version of Outlook app installed and it is fetching emails and giving notifications but on the iphone 12 I have to manually open the application and slide it down to get it refreshed and then it fetches new email. while locked it is not doing anything.

Ensure that the app is not set to sleep from the settings.
Also, allow background activity for the app from the permissions page.
Hope this will solve the issue.
