Outlook Address Book - Where is it stored?

Hey Guys and Gals,

I don't use Outlook but I have a customer who's hard drive got pretty messed up. I have been salvaging files and he would like his address book back. I would take a guess that this file is somewhere under his user name in the "Documents and Settings" directory. What info would I need to save?

Not sure 'bout where to find the file.... But I know you can export their address book as a file if you can access Outlook.

Well I can't get into since the drive is almost dead or corrupted beyond most means. I think I have found it though. Under the "Documents and Setting" -> "User Name" -> "Application Data" -> "Microsoft" there is a directory called "Address Book". I would think this is it but if anybody can confirm this please let me know. If not I will let the customer try it and see what happens.

Oh yes, should be a file in there labeled username.wab

username.wab is the Windows Address Book that is used by Outlook Express. If you are asking about Outlook - in a non-Exchange environment, Outlook's contacts are stored in a Personal Folders file *.pst

How do you access the "Documents and Setting" directory?

I want to make a back-up copy of the data used by Windows Address Book. I lost all my orignal list recently when I had to reformat the hard drive!

Richard, you might not have a 'Documents & Settings' directory, depending on what operating system you're using. The easiest way to backup the Windows Address book is to open the address book then go to File, Export....
