User has Outlook 2007 on Windows XP PC and Windows Vista laptop. No problems on the PC but Outlook hangs on the laptop if you select the Contacts or Tasks tabs. Accessing the Contacts through Tools -> Address Book works fine. CPU for Outlook.exe stays at 50% or thereabouts. Using Outlook Connector to sync with Hotmail e-mail and contacts. Tried starting Outlook in safe mode but no difference. Any ideas welcomed.

I have a similar problem. Whenever my user opens an email with an attachment, Outlook hangs for 3-4 minutes before displaying the email and if you look at the task manager, outlook.exe is at 50-51%.

Have you had any luck finding a solution to your problem?

No answers have been forthcoming so my customer has had to live with the situation. Even Microsoft gave up after their support people tried to resolve it remotely.

@bjtechjmf

I don't think that your problem is similar to lesdevon's. He/she is talking about selecting tabs, not an e-mail containing an attachment.

In your case, it sounds like its a virus scanner scanning the e-mail attachment before allowing the e-mail to be opened.

Does this happen with only one user?
Does it happen if the user logs into another machine?
Does it happen to a different user if they log into the problem user's machine?
Are you using Exchange or POP3?

Hope this helps.

lesdevon - I wish I had a solution for you. In my case there seemed to be something corrupt with these emails. After looking myself, instead of trustng the user, it only happened with certain emails from one sender. To track it down, I made a copy of the offending email and started deleting sections of the copy until the problem disappeared.

cmeagan656 - thanks for the help. I said it was similiar becasue outlook.exe's cpu usage would always spike to 50-51% as lesdevon described.
