Outlook 2007 does not connect to exchange server

I have a user running windows 7 and office 2007. This user when he is in the local network he can connect to the exchange server. But when he tries the connection from an office that is connected to the to the network where the exchange is, usig a branch office connection or vpn already stablished his Outlook does not connect.

He can ping the IP of the server but he cannot ping the name of the server.

In windows XP we resolved this issue by modifing the hosts putting in the ip and name of the server, but in windows 7 is this possible?

Hi tetote, it is possible to modify the hosts file to achieve what you want, but really you need to be looking at why the client pc isn't talking to DNS.
Does the laptop (i assume it's a laptop and theuser doesn't carry a desktop around with them!) have a static ip address or use DHCP?

Hi Paul, the user has a laptop, and has DHCP activated. For example he connects to his network 172.10.96.0 and that network is connected by VPN to the networks 172.10.32.0. The exchange server is 172.10.32.15.
There is communication between this two networks, we have other communications like VoIP and that works great, the problem is just the email client cannot connect to the server.
