My boss shut his power off because his XP Pro laptop hung on him. So he hit the switch off/on without waiting in between. Now he is saying that his Outlook POP and SMTP server settings have reverted back to our old web hosts settings from a month ago. This seems to happen often, and he is tired of having to reset Outlook all the time. (I know, stop shutting down so weird...but he is the boss and wont listen to me!)

Could this be from an old system restore point, and when he slammed the computer it went to the old working restore point?

I am not sure how system restore works, or if it even could hold the older settings of Outlook.

Thanks for any comments to help end this issue.

weird, I only know of system restore starting manually or if by a script.

Yes it can restore email settings:
"When you use System Restore, you can revert to a saved state without losing personal data including Word documents, e-mail settings and messages, and your Internet favorites list. System Restore won't lose any data you have stored in the My Documents, My Pictures, or My Music folders either."

Try making sure his boot is normal: start, run, msconfig, enter, boot tab, general tab, make sure all is normal and checks out OK.
