Hi,

I am having a problem with Outlook 2003.

On a new mail message, whenever I type in the "To:" or "Subject:" box and press any of the arrow keys, I get the "DING!" sound from Windows.

How do I fix this..???

It's like Outlook now thinks the arrow keys are unacceptable keystrokes when I am in the email header boxes. So if I have a long recipient list or subject line, and "arrow through it" to make corrections, I get a blast of "DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING!" when the keyboard repeat kicks in.

This is making me crazier than I already am. =-)

~Thanks

I'm assuming you're saying this occurs when you're not at the end of your text?

If so, can you get into the BIOS settings of your PC where you're at? If so, you may can disable/edit the keyboard type-rate settings there to see if that corrects the issues.

Also, if it's USB keyboard, you could try a different port just to see.

Have you always had this issue? If not, what was the last change before it occured? New hardware? Windows/Office/Driver Update? Virus Scan? Something else?

Thank you for you reply. I will be happy with any help I can for this issue, but you are not fully understanding what's happening.

My issue is as follows:

1) Open a new Outlook mail message.

2) In the subject box, type "123"

3) Now simply press the Left-arrow key. When I do this, I get the "ding" sound that Windows plays for an unacceptable keystroke.

Anywhere in the To: or Subject: fields, any time I press an arrow key, I get the DING sound.

Press any two keys at the same time (and I don't mean hold one key and press another) and then see if problem still exists.

A man has only two choices: He can be right or he can be happy.

I don't understand. Any two keys? The ding only happens with the arrow keys.

I did try pressing random combination of two letter keys at the same time, but I did not get a ding sound. Should I have?

Did you get the same dinging sound after pressing that combination? In other words, if you go to another email message, and carry out the same actions you've been carrying out, did you get the same message?

I forgot about that issue. It seems that sometimes a certain key combination will cause things to get sorta "stuck" in the keyboard.. or in MS Windows handling of the keyboard. Then when you press a combination of two keys, it'll just sorta unstick. Very technical, yes?! [wink]

That's pretty funny.
You thought you weren't being technical. But, in fact they are called StickyKeys. There are two ways to Un-stick them.

One is to press two keys at the same time

and the other

is to go to Start; Settings, Control Panel, Accessibility Options, uncheck "Use StickyKeys"
