Okay what I did was I did a File>Import and export> export to a file> personal folder file> selected "Personal Folders + include subfolders> selected a path... > gave it it's own name and put a password on it. Made sure NOT to select "save this password"

So the file exported to my desktop. I immediately burned it to a cd.

Now I want to load it and if I try from the CD-rom it says "you do not have permission" or something to that extent.

Copy it to the desktop and it gives this error "The file C:\blahblahblah\desktop\blah.pst is not a personal folders file"

No matter what I try I can not get this thing to open. Any ideas guys?

The file was created under the same logon I am trying to open it with and I had already set permissions to everyone in each area possible with full control to negate any issues with permission rights. I am just gonna chalk this one up as unsolvable and just forget about it. I have done many searches over google and microsoft to no avail, this problem is obviously quite rare and does not seem to be reversible.

Dont' know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but for future reference, don't export. Grab a copy of your entire PST. It generally resides in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

you need to copy the pst file from the CD to your HDD.
then remove the read only attribute (this will be there because it is read-only on the CD)
now you can open it in outlook.

Outlook needs to be able to write to the PST file in order to open it.

That was done right off the bat. Theres no way your going to extract a PST off of a cd strictly because of the read only attribute. You will recieve a "you do not have permission" or "access denied" error of some sort. That did not solve the problem.
