Hello all,

I am running Outlook 2003 and have contacts in my contact list but when I try to access them from the To: or CC: buttons, they will not show up in dialog box. Even when I click the drop down box for "contacts" they do not appear anymore ---- just blank. The problem seemed to have started when the exchange server crashed. I have run through the standard configurations screens with no luck.

All the Global address lists show up when selected but not the contacts. Could this be a corrupt outlook profile?

Thanks, Erica

Hi Erica

I had this problem last week, try this to fix it.

Right click on the 'Contacts' folder. Choose Properties, then on the Outlook Address Book make sure that 'Show this folder as an e-mail Address book' is checked, hit ok. Then try again.

Unfortunetly I have tried that many times...... But thanks.

Is this just one computer or all computers connected to Exchange?

It is just one computer out of 200 that has this issue. I am thinking about setting up a new user profile for this winxp computer. I will give an update tomorrow. Are there any good links out there for instructions on setting up new profiles on existing systems. Do you just rename the current profile?

Hi,

You can back up the users files and then delete their c:\documents and settings\<username> folder if you have admin rights to the local PC.

Then have them log in afresh and resetup their outlook account with exchange. Just be sure if they have any .PST files stored locally you back em up so that you can add them in again later .

I have seen this solve various problems with outlook including yours. Not a fun task but guaranteed to outlook back to default settings for your user.

Thanks StuckInTheMiddle but I need a little more help. My admin suggested that I rename the user profile in explorer "Documents and Settings" the user profile which is fliston.WGA to fliston.bak or something like that. Everytime I try to do this access is denied even if I am logged into administrator profile (maybe safe mode will work?). I tried to copy all of the contents of fliston.WGA but too many of the files will not copy over to a newly created folder.

I am kinda stuck thanks for your help.......

If you can't rename the folder and some files won't copy to a new folder it sounds like a permissions issue.

Make sure that you have full contoll of all directories, sub-directories, and files in the user's profile, then try again.

If it still doesn't work try taking ownership of the profile as administrator and make sure that you have full contoll of all directories, sub-directories, and files in the user's profile, then try again.

Cheers.

It really should be the PC Admin that does this as they should have all rights and know what they are doing without messing out XP.
