User has Outlook 2002 on XP laptop. Server is SBS 2000. He wanted to remove all emails with attachments from a folder in Outlook, so he created a rule that permanently deleted any incoming email with attachments and applied it to his folder with desired results. He then deleted the rule. Problem is, it still applies to his mailbox and he cannot get any mail w/attachments. We've tried killing profiles, removing all rules, adding and then deleting the same rule again - no difference. I can only get his attachments by adding a rule that stops processing any further rules if an email has an attachment.

How can I get rid of the rules on his mailbox completely? Is there a manual way to kill his email profile rules w/o deleteing and recreating his mailbox?

Thanx - russh2112

Are files stored in a local pst file? You could try moving the pst file with Outlook closed. When you open Outlook next, it will bark about not finding the pst file. It will want you to browse for one. Just click the open/new button, it will create a new one. Now, do a file>import function, and import the old pst. If that doesn't do it, you might try repairing office, and if that fails, removing/reinstalling office.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I've seen this happen with OL2K, even when a new profile was created the old rules still applied if you used the same profile name when you recreated the profile.

For OL2K (not sure about OL2K2 - I don't use it) if you name your new OL2K profile the same as the one you deleted the new profile still picks up your rules, etc. from your old profile because when you delete the profile it doesn't always delete the associated files.

Try this:

1. Delete the exisiting OL2K2 profile

2. Go to Documents and Settings\username\application data\microsoft\outlook and delete, or rename, the .rwz file. This is your rules file. Its supposed to delete when you delte the associated OL2K2 profile but sometimes it doesn't, particularly if you're already having issues with rules.

3. Create a new OL2K2 profile. You'll need to recreate all the rules from scratch as OL2K2 should no longer know about your old rules.

Cheers.

The email is in an Exchange mailbox - not local .pst file.

I also forwarded the user the post regarding the .rwz file and he claims there is no such file in the directory described. I will visit and make certain he isn't overlooking it or if it's hidden from him.

Thanks for the responses. I'll report back asap.
