I've checked through other posts and this problem is persisting.

Nice new fresh install of XP pro and Office xp. Using Outlook 2002. All works swimmingly.

But... The user has two email addresses and is prone to thinking up new ones (it's my 11 year old daughter's pc, all addresses are somethingelse@samething.com ). So I set up two accounts on Outlook. On send/receive, it always asks for a password for the second one. The save password boxes are checked, and I've run all that stuff about the Protected Storage Area.

Is there a solution to this? It's complete pants really. All newish stuff and all from the same company and it seems to just not work.

Boy, I'm gald someone else has this problem and I'm not crazy.

I NEVER had this problem in Outlook 2000, 2 accounts and no problems. Did a clean install of WinXP Pro on my laptop, clean install of Office XP and bingo, get this dam PASSWORD problem as soon as I add a second account. Even tried using the same exact parameters for both accounts and still get the password dialog box. What a pain in the butt.

Isn't Microsoft GREAT or what!

If anyone has a soultion, please post it so everyone can get back to normal.

I was speaking to someone yesterday. They said they had 'fixed' this by setting up the accounts in Outlook Express and then importing them into Outlook. Haven't tried it myself. And I don't know what happens if you then want to add a 3rd address.

My other gripe about Outlook failing to close itself when you shut the machine down is, my pal says, fixed in Outlook 2003.

Makes you wonder what sort of monkeys are employed to code Outlook.

Peter:

There may be a fancy work around by doing something with Outlook Express, but that shouldn't be the way.

Microsoft should come out with a simple patch, period. Download, install and be done with it.

One wonders what kind of testing these chumps do before releasing a new product.

I wonder if someone has an account with MS where they get support and could bug the folks in Redmond.

Check and see if the "Portected Storage" service is running. If so stop/disable it and see if that helps.
