I had Exchange2000 running. I had to redo the Exchange server for naming reasons.

Old Name: abc123

New Name: 123abc

When I go to Outlook to change the server name to the new one, I get this message:

The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed. I only get this message for users that are already in AD. But if I create a new users, I am able to connect to the new server.

Can someone please help me.

Thanks,
Marcelij1

Existing users likely contain references to the old server in the following attributes:

homeMTA, homeMDB, msExchHomeServerName

You could

1. Remove the exchange attributes from the affected users
2. Run the mailbox cleanup agent
3. Reconnect the mailboxes

Thank You so very much. You have no idea how frustrating this was getting to be.Thanks a million.

One more thing.
On my Exchange Server Active Directory I can view all Computers. But on my Domain Controller Active Directory Users and Computers I am not able to view the Computers (Computer Accounts)

Also, if I create a new user on my Domain Controller I don't get the option of setting email for that user. I actually have to do it from the Exchage Server Active Directory Users and Computers, so I can set the email for the new user.

Thank You,
Marcelij1

1. Very strane indead. You should be able to see the contents of the computers container.

2. Install the exchange admin tools. They extend the ADUC MMC snap in to show the additional attributes.

I have one more problem:

I can send email to anyone Inside or Outside my network. But I am not able to recieve email from Outside.

Can you help me with that?

Thanks,
Marcelij1

I see that the email that are coming in are getting stuck in the queue.

External MX should point to firewall which redirect port 25 to your exchange server.

Yeah that's what I tought too. I check my firewall setting and it is pointing to the correct internal ip address.

I notice you said External MX. What do you mean by that?

I just point my internal MX record to the internal ip address of my exchange server, right?

Thanks,

Internal meaning in my local DNS settings.

Somehow, the world needs to know how to get mail to your server. This is done with an MX record in the external DNS hosted by your ISP. Typically it points to the outside interface of your firewall, and you create a firewall rule to redirect port 25 to your internal mail server.
