Does anyone have any idea why some rules are not run automaticly when messages arrive?

I have about 20 rules and almost all of them are OK. But some of them are simply skipped.

If I choose rules wizard and select all rules and run them in Inbox, ALL rules are run. So rules are correct and they don't interfear with each other, I just can't figure out why are not run automaticly.

Check that all the messages going to be checked by the rules....make sure for each rule that you have it set so that the messages are checked when they arrive, and not set to check a specific email address or subject.....

if this doesnt work, can you please tell me a bit more about the rules that you ahve and if they are server based or client based..... Jay~

My new Tae Kwon Do website is up and running!!

The messages are checked as they arrive. To be exact, the rule is client based and looks like this:

apply this rule after the messages arrive
with 'xxx' or 'porn' or 'money' or ... in the subject
move it to the Spam folder
except if from ... or ... or ...
or except with ... in the sender's address
stop processing more rules

The rule is OK since it is executed if I select Run now. I have quite a few other rules formed the same way (though a little less complex) and they work fine. The rule is the second last. It is skipped and the last (notify me using 'You-ve got mail') is executed.

I'm quite positive everything I did was correct and it looks to me like a bug.

My suspision with the rule you described above is the line
except if from ... or ... or ...

You say the rule doesn't run. Does that mean it doesn't properly process a test message or something?

A "test" message you are using to check the rule must "satisfy" one of the conditions and if the from addresses is off by a character or something then it won't do anything. Did you pick the addresses from contacts when creating the rule? If so, make sure the contact has the address correct. If not, make sure you typed the address correctly.

I have found that conditional (or, and) rules are very picky, as they should be, and that finding a 'human' error in them can be difficult. But, that is usually where the error is from, some subtle hard to pinpoint mistake.

Also have you checked all the things Help tells you to check in Troubleshooting rules?

The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.

The rules is correct. It is not run when a message arrives, but if I then choose Rules Wizzard, Run Now, check all rules and run them in current folder, the rules moves the message in correct folder.

I erased 'except' conditions. Now this rule is exactly the same as some other rules I have (except for the parameters, of course) and it still doesn't run automaticly when messages arrive.

Of course I checked Troubleshooting rules.

I really don't think that I made a mistake - must be something wrong with Outlook (after all, it is Microsoft's product :) ).

Ok,

I intended no dis by asking the did you check TS, it's sort of like asking is it plugged it:).

Have you changed the order of the rule's execution? If so, does it matter where the rule is in the order if it works or not?

I have about 15 rules running and they all seem to work ok all the time.
The two rules for success are:
1. Never tell them everything you know.

I've tried - it works! Looks like the rule

with ... in the recipient's address
move it to ... folder
and stop processing more rules

caused all this trouble. I still don't know why - the rule seems to be correct. It doesn't work if run automaticly, but works when run manually. I suppose this is a bug.

Anyway, thanks, rjkrash, for all the help in finding this workaround.
