Outlook 2000 new messages not showing

I have a user who is not receiving new messages in her Inbox unless she opens an existing message or composes a new one. Only then do new messages appear.

She is using Outlook 2000 on Windows XP Pro. I have had this problem with other users in the past on Windows 2000. The only resolution I could find for them was to re-image their PCs! Even re-installing Outlook did not help.

I would like to avoid that this time around if possible. Any ideas?

Yes, Dr. Banner, the user has SP2 on her PC. This problem makes me so mad, I want to turn into an 10-foot green monster with bulging muscles... but of course, I don't need to tell you that, Dr. Banner...

I have found this problem before, and I am sure its to do with the XP firewall, I have looked everywhere for the KB aritcle but can't find it.

It is something to do with the methond that outlook uses to check for new mail. There is a way of changing the protocol it uses to overcome the issue.

Do you still have the issue when the firewall is off?
