Hi.
This should be a simple thing, but ??
I have partitioned my HD and would like to store my personal folder on drive D:
I found MS knowledge base article 257836 - How to move your personal folders, and tried to follow the steps, however when I try to copy c:\windows\application data\Microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst to d:\ I get an error message "unable to write to destination drive"??
From the same folder I am able to copy 'extend.dat' to the desired location, so why not 'outlook.pst'?
The article instructs me to use windows explorer, so it cannot be an issue of the file being in use by windows.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks,
John

With Outlook closed, you should be able to copy your .pst file to the place you now want it. Then go to Tools / Services / Add / Personal Folders and then go choose the new file. Then delete the reference to the old one via the same route, and then finally delete the old .pst file.

OK, that was the menu choices on my works computer hooked up to the network. Just tried on my home PC (Normally use OE) and they are different:-

Create a new data file and move or copy items to it
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Outlook Data File.
Under Types of storage , click Personal Folders file (.pst) and then click OK.

[At this point I think you should be able to choose a new folder wherver you want. Then follow the rest of this, and then once done, replace the new pst file with your old one]

In the File name box, type a name for the file, or leave the default, and then click OK.
In the Name box, type a display name for the .pst folder, or leave the default.
Select any other options you want, and then click OK. (If you are creating a .pst file, you can add a password of up to 15 characters. If you select the Save this password in your password list check box, make a note of the password in case you need to open the .pst on another computer.)
The name of the folder associated with the data file appears in the Folder List. To view the Folder List, from the View menu, click Folder List. By default, the folder will be called Personal Folders .

Drag any item from your current folders to the new folder. Press CTRL while dragging to copy items instead of moving them.
Notes

You can open a Personal Folders file (.pst) from a network share, but you must have read/write permissions to do so. Make sure that the .pst is not in use by another user or program. Otherwise you will not be able to access the .pst.
