I've been copy & pasting things into InDesign from Illustrator and have seen that the vector shapes are outlined with the colour of their respective layer. Is there a way to tun this off? Donno what the rest of you think but InDesign's Help is pretty rubbish!

Ah!! Thanks for that! I'm using InDesign for the first time today so am having lots of gripes!

You may have installed it incorrectly then. The first day of using InDesign for most folks is a pleasure. [bigsmile]

InDesign uses some pretty straightforward UI concepts. If you are not content with the view when art is copied from Illustrator, check the View menu. To find more control not immediately visible in the palettes or menus, also explore the contextual menu that appears when you right click (CTRL-click on Mac) your cursor over an image or text frame.

Yeah, once you've used it for, say, a whole day then things begin to get clearer. I'm lazy in that having used Photoshop & Illustrator for years I expected to be able to run with it straight away. One thing that really bugs me though is that if you're on the magnify tool and hold down the spacebar to get the hand it still magnifies! Worse still is if you then work on 3DS Max which uses the spacebar to Lock objects. Autodesk should have mimicked Adobe's commands.

I don't see that magnify/hand issue on my current system (IDCS1 on Windows). It behaves properly here. Something seems a bit off on your end. Be sure that you are fully patched and that you have the default keyboard shortcuts selected.

'Edit menu->Keyboard shortcuts' will allow you to tweak any shortcuts. If you want, Adobe can mimic Autodesk. (Although I think 3DS has the same ability to modify hotkeys)
