How can I put a fading in/out outline to objects?

All I can do is select the object, select the outline tool and then choose a colour for its outline. I want to be able to add a fading in-out effect or put a texture to the outline. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance

well, i guess it depends on what you're trying to achieve - outlines are usually not that large, so a texture wouldn't be seen. Do you have an example to show what you're looking for? Odds are you may want the Contour tool and not outlines.

Convert your outline to object (not always successful on the more complicated shapes)and then fill usinf fountain option

like Brushman said I would also go to ARRANGE then Convert Outline To Object but you have to make sure your outline is thick enough to do that to. I would suggest a 1 point line or thicker. Then, once the outline has become it's own object, you'll then be able to fill it using the Fountain Fill tool as normal.

I tried Arrange|Convert outline to object, but this option is grayed, I can't chose it even if the object which's outline I want to do an object is selected.

How thick is your outline currently? It needs to be atleast 1 point sometimes it needs to be thicker. Try using a 2 point thick outline. The object definitely has to be selected before you go to Convert Outline to Object

Let me know if that works.

Is your object part of a group? Select items which have an outline only, is the option still greyed out? - Try selecting 1 item at a time just to see if the function is working. Be aware that results can be a bit hit and miss on complicated shapes

It is actually a grid composed by a group of maybe 20 squares. I even tried using an 8-point outline but the option remains grayed...

What I want to do is generate a blue background on top of which put a white grid which will be clearly seen in the center and will be fading out as you move to the edges. So the gridlines need to be white in the center of the image and then as you move outwards they become blueish resulting to the background colour- blue.

I was just able to recreate this effect that you are speaking of.

First select yor grid and choose "ungroup all", then choose arrange convert outline to object. (keep it selected)The grid then becomes a bunch of seperate squares so you can't choose the fill option yet because each individual square will have the Fountain Fill. (while the whole thing is still selected) GO TO "COMBINE" then you should be able to use the appropriate fountain fill that will create the fading out effect. I was able to do it even with a 2 point outline.
I could email you what I was able to come up with...

That won't be necessary, your guidelines were perfect!

Thanks again
