outline only of a solid

We're running 3D mouldings around a room and cabinets. They're drawn by using a 2D profile block and then extruding (this is done automatically in our drafting/machining program, Microvellum). The problem is that there are too many contour lines that show, even when Hide is used. In fact, there is a line wherever this is a point in the profile block. We only want an outline of the moulding to show. Is there a setting or command that will only have the outline of the resulting solid show? Thanks.
