We recently moved offices. Right now, the incoming calls are going great. Our trouble is with outgoing calls. when someone pushes 9 to get the outgoing line, we hear a dial tone, but nothing happens after dialing.

Some additional information might help speed things along. Can you tell us which Merlin system you have, what cards are in the system and what revision the processor is?

Are the calls going out over an inband T1, ISDN or POTs lines? If POTs lines, can you duplicate the problem from the Bell demarc by using a regular telephone?

Sounds like you have some "dead"/unconnected lines in your main line pool - usually 70. See what lines are currently in the pool - versus how many you actually have plugged into the system (if these are regular analog lines). The system pulls lines from the pool in a circular hunt - if it hits a dead line (i.e., a line trunk that is not connected to a real phone line) - you will get initial system-generated dial tone - which will quickly disappear.
