Is there a way to set a default outgoing caller ID? Meaning, if the nothing is programed in the "public-unknown-numbering" tables for an extension the Avaya will send a different specified number.
i.e. All out going calls will display 423-555-1234 except for extension 768 which should show 423-555-9876.

That is exactly "why" you is isdn-public-unknown so you can set your switch up to do exactly what you are saying you want...for all extensions to send out 432-123-4567 and (1) station to send out 432-123-8976...that's exactly what it does. Use it for what it is designed to do !!!

I understand that but how, where, do I get 423-555-1234 to be the default outgoing number so I don't have to program every extension into the public unknown numbering tables? Basically, if the extension is not in the public unknown numbering tables it sends out the 1234 number.

you will have to populate the public tables to achive this , so every station that needs to send out a number different to the main carrier circuit identifier will need an entry.

also assuming 423-555-1234 is you default main number you don't have to programme anything , if it is not I would speak to the carrier to see if they can present this as the main CLI , this is much simpler than programming the public tables.

OK, so I cannot program a "default" outgoing CID number. The carrier is sending our our main billing number which is not a number we want people calling.

Correct , threaten the carrier with a big stick or tell them you will switch suppliers(if possible) to get them to change the main number , it is certainly possible in the UK.

That is pretty standard for them to send the main billing number all you need to do is call them and ask them to change it...they will it's not a big deal, then after they do that all you need to do is change the (1) station you referred to to the caller id you want it to send...Pretty simple...

Good Luck...

Thanks, apparently they have to take down the PRIs to make this change and we were trying to avoid that, but we gotta do what we gotta do.

Ask to see if they can set up a temp divert to a group of cell phones for the down time , that way at least you can handle incoming calls.
