Has anyone seen an outdoor UV resistant cat5 cable that doesn't have the double jacket and the gel? They make it for telephone cable, so why not for cat5? I have a spool of the outdoor stuff, but I hate using it because it is so stiff and large diameter. If you just need part of a cable run to be on the outside of a house it would be much easier to use something thinner and more flexible.

Commscope makes an outdoor version, it is black and gel filled (which is really what you should use for outdoor) and it is still the same diameter as regular Cat5.

Good Luck. It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

ran pvc pipe to my shed out behind my house then put the wire in that and seled it with waterproofing gell. That way i dont need to dig up again to fix of replace.

That would work I suppose.
Btw Gel filled Cable is ONLY for UNDERGROUND applications, you will never find arial cable that is gel filled from any telco.
The purpose of gel filled cable is for extra protection if the outer sheath breaks due to the frost breaking the conduit, filling up with water, freezing then breaking the cable.
But from a house to a shed your laughing :) ~Will Nortel soon be NoTel??~

Many thanks to Daron Wilson. I got 1000 feet of the commscope cable for $125. It's just what I was looking for--cheaper than the double jacketed stuff and much easier to work with.
